Don’t forget … dues!

July 8, 2019 at 7:46 pm

Did you pay your CWCA dues yet? Only $30.

The CWCA Gazette was mailed to each home in CW in April and among the helpful info and announcements was an envelope for your $30.00 annual dues. If you haven’t gotten around to paying your dues and no longer have the envelope, NO PROBLEM!

*Use PayPal. It’s right on this page!

*Don’t want to use PayPal? Write a check made out to CWCA (or use cash) and drop it off or snail mail it to Dues Chairperson Lanee Reuther, 4904 N. Centaurs Court, Annandale, VA 22003.

NOTE: Whether you are a renter or a homeowner, you benefit from the efforts of the many volunteers who give their time to the CWCA . Even if you never attend a social event sponsored by the CWCA, our community is made more attractive by the fact that we host such events. All residents also receive our newsletters, get a directory booklet, and have access to our website. In addition, periodically we have house numbers painted on the curbs in front of each home. For a more complete understanding of what the CWCA does for you, you could attend the annual meeting OR contact one of the present Board members (see this website or the newsletter for names.)

Board Adopts Supervisor Cook’s Motion to Investigate American Disposal Services

May 22, 2019 at 1:44 pm
At yesterday’s Board of Supervisors meeting the Board adopted a motion directing the County Attorney to investigate the actions of American Disposal Services under the Virginia Consumer Protection Act.  American has failed to meet its contractual obligations to individuals and home owners associations around the county, resulting in hundreds of complaints for missed trash pick ups. The motion directs the county attorney to seek business records or other information to see whether American violated the law by contracting to provide services, often after under-bidding competitors, and then being unable to deliver what it promised. Under the unanimously passed motion, the county will request production of documents by June 14 and the county attorney will brief the Board at its June 25th meeting.
The county continues to monitor missed trash pick-ups by ADS and other carriers. If you continue to have missed trash pick-ups, please report them to trashmail@fairfaxcounty.gov or call 703-324-5230.

Update: Negotiations for Trash Services

January 22, 2019 at 2:27 pm

Canterbury Woods Residents;

The trash collection rates from both ADS and Republic have increased this year due to regulations that Fairfax County is placing on the companies with respect to disposal locations and fees to use those locations.  If you move into the neighborhood today and go to the website to request new service, you will be charged the following:

1.  Republic $36/month for the first year; $40 per month for the second year, a $60 delivery service for the containers, and a $25 deposit.
2.  ADS,  $34.95/month for once a week collection, additional charges may apply similar to Republic.

We worked with ADS to negotiate rates for the community at $25/month for weekly pickup and $27/month for twice a week pickup along with 3 Bulk items for pickup in May (Bulk items include household furniture such as mattresses, sofas and chairs).

As a reminder, the negotiated rates and bulk item pick up is available only for current due-paying members of CWCA.  If you are not a dues-paying member of CWCA there is a minimum charge of $100 for bulk item pick up. You will have to independently contact your trash removal company to arrange for pick up of bulk items.

If you have not paid your dues, there is a link here on the website to pay dues.

Republic no longer will negotiate with Civic Associations, so there is no negotiated rate.

As many of you have pointed out, you may have a better rate due to being a customer for a long period of time.  The disposal services are aware of this and will slowly raise your rates to be consistent with the new customer rate over the next couple of years.  So, if you have a lower rate, then stay with your lower rate.  However, at some point, that good deal may end, and the community negotiated rate will be your best option.

Hope that this information helps everyone and please let us know if you have any other questions regarding trash collection.
